Treating Acne with a Weight Loss Diet
Sunday, September 18th, 2011While there are many different treatments that can help to clear up acne, one of the more natural ways is often overlooked. This is taking a stab at what is often the underlying cause of the problem, rather than trying to work solely on the symptom. That cause often lies in the diet of the person who is suffering from excessive acne. Now it may not be the cause in every case, but you can be pretty sure it has some bearing in the majority of cases.
The best way to tackle it is to look at the current diet and try to identify what areas of that diet are the likely culprits, then eliminate them. This is not always an easy thing to do, but even just by making changes to the diet to cut out processed foods, junk and anything that may contain sugary additives, saturated fats or comprise high glycemic carbohydrates should be avoided. That includes soda and other flavored drinks that contain any kind of additives.
Making radical changes to a diet can also sometimes do the trick. If the sufferer is overweight, then going on a low calorie, healthy diet is a good choice. Some people lead busy lives and have little free time to devote to working a regular diet. But there are alternatives that take almost no time at all with diet delivery programs such as Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig and the like. If these are not suitable, then there are other options such as going to visit a good nutritionist who will be able to take the individual needs of the client and prepare a suitable diet sheet that will take into consideration the problem of acne and recommend foods accordingly.
By reducing body weight in the first instance, the acne sufferer gives themselves other alternatives in starting an exercise regime that will not only improve fitness levels, but also boost the metabolism. A sluggish metabolism is often responsible for the food a person eats to be only partially digested with more toxins allowed to remain unprocessed.
This is also exacerbated if the person drinks very little water to re-hydrate with, relying on soda and flavored drinks to do that job. By increasing the amount of plain water that is consumed, the acne sufferer can often see a marked improvement over time. This is because by drinking around two pints of water a day, the body is not only properly hydrated with exactly the medium it needs, but it also allows the body to self detoxify, improving the health of the digestive system from start to finish.
The bottom line is that a body that has fewer toxins to deal with or to have lying around in places it should not have them lying around in (the colon, for instance), will be much more able to clear the skin, which is often an outward reflection of what is happening on the inside. Eat, drink and live healthily and the body responds by showing its best side, with less acne as the surface indicator of a more healthy inside.
