Acne present on the chin represents a part of the face that makes up the major trouble spot known as the “T-zone”, the forehead, nose and chin, which is the area responsible for the largest, most active oil glands. Although it is part of the face that is a regular location of acne, in general it is an area that responds well to treatment.

A group of people who often find that they get recurring outbreaks of acne on the chin are women who are menstruating or who are pregnant. This is obviously due to the fluctuation in hormones in the body.

Some of the causes of acne, including chin acne, have been found by researchers to attributed to the presence of toxins in the body, hormonal changes, stress, a diet that is unbalanced.

Another common reason that acne forms around the chin is through friction contact from such outside influences such as face masks or from repeatedly resting the chin on objects. The repeated contact with the face can cause the pores in the skin to become clogged or blocked and the result is an acne outbreak. Picking up bacteria by resting the receiver of a phone against your chin is also a possible cause and is certainly something to avoid if you are in the group who is more susceptible to chin acne.

Treatment of Chin Acne

Acne of the chin can be treated in a number of ways. Not all of them need necessarily be medication treatments and not all of these treatments will be effective for everyone.

A simple start to treating your chin acne is to start drinking plenty of water combined with more regular face washing .

Accutane is a treatment that has had effective results with chin acne. There is one advisory to add for women who are thinking about using it and that is for women who are pregnant who should avoid using it. Similarly, diabetics should also avoid using it.

Oxy 10 is also effective for chin acne, starting off with an application of a mild moisturizer before applying the Oxy 10. This is an antibiotic cream that will be very effective against a simplex acne on the chin.

A change of diet will also help to improve the chances of fighting your chin acne. An increase in the fruit and vegetables you consume will help for more healthy skin.

Using sulfur soap to wash your face with each day will also help to dry the skin out plus remove any build up of dead skin cells. With this daily treatment your skin can quickly improve once the pores have become unblocked.

For men, the added problem of shaving will become an issue, particular if the acne is tending towards the serious side. One of the vital warnings when it comes to acne is to never pick it for fear that the resulting scars will be permanent. Continually knocking the tops off your chin acne with the razor will not be good for it and could lead to infections if the lesions are worsened.

As with most other acne in its simplest form, regular treatment and dietary changes will go a long way towards improving the condition of your skin. By following a regular treatment and perhaps after consulting your doctor if the condition is prolonged and doesn’t seem to be improving, there should be a noticeable improvement in the seriousness of your chin acne.

More serious forms of acne that may have taken up residence on your chin, such as cystic acne will require a more serious kind of treatment.

The technical explanation of the occurrence of acne is that it is a disease of the pilosebaceous units (PSUs). PSUs are found all over the body and consist of a sebaceous gland connected to a canal, called a follicle, that contains a fine hair. The PSUs are most numerous on the face, upper back and chest. When the PSU is working properly the sebaceous glands make an oily substance called sebum that normally empties onto the skin surface through the opening of the follicle, commonly called a pore. Cells called keratinocytes line the follicle.

The hair, sebum, and keratinocytes that fill the narrow follicle may produce a plug, which is an early sign of acne. The plug prevents sebum from reaching the surface of the skin through a pore. The mixture of oil and cells allows bacteria Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) that normally live on the skin to grow in the plugged follicles. These bacteria produce chemicals and enzymes and attract white blood cells that cause inflammation. (Inflammation is a characteristic reaction of tissues to disease or injury and is marked by four signs: swelling, redness, heat, and pain.) When the wall of the plugged follicle breaks down, it spills everything into the nearby skin – sebum, shed skin cells, and bacteria – leading to lesions or pimples.

Acne presents itself in a variety of ways and come with a variety of names to distinguish it.

Whiteheads

The basic acne lesion, called the comedo (KOM-e-do), is simply an enlarged and plugged hair follicle. If the plugged follicle, or comedo, stays beneath the skin, it is called a closed comedo and produces a white bump called a whitehead.

Blackheads

A comedo that reaches the surface of the skin and opens up is called an open comedo or blackhead because it looks black on the skin’s surface. This black discoloration is due to changes in sebum as it is exposed to air. It is not due to dirt.

Papules

These are inflamed lesions that usually appear as small, pink bumps on the skin and can be tender to the touch.

Pustules (pimples)

When the papules are topped by white or yellow pus-filled lesions that may be red at the base they are given the simple name pimples.

Nodules

More severe cases of acne are characterised by large, painful, solid lesions that are lodged deep within the skin.

Cysts

Another severe form of acne presents with deep, painful, pus-filled lesions that can cause scarring.

These different types of acne require differing acne treatments from topical medicine treatments such as creams or washes to oral medication for the more severe forms of acne. The types of acne treatment will be dealt with in another article.

We’ve all been through it during our adolescent years and some of us continue to get outbreaks of acne during our middle age. Clearing acne is one of the problems that dominates our lives at a time of life where our sense of appearance is a very fragile thing.

So what is acne and how can we quickly clear it up?

An inflammatory disease of the skin, acne is the result of severe changes in the skin’s structure. Acne is thought to be the body’s unusual response to a relatively normal production of testosterone, a male hormone. Rather than a sign that one’s skin is not clean, acne is more closely associated with the hormonal and bacterial activity beneath the skin, which eventually leads to the irritation of the skin. The result is the red swelling we know as acne.

All sorts of attempts have been made to cure acne quickly before it takes hold. As with most things, some methods have had more success than others. Because acne is the result of chemical reactions within the body, it is widely believed that keeping consistent levels of hormonal activity is a good way to avoid acne. Avoiding stress or extreme levels of sexual activity has been known to lessen the effects of acne, if not prevent it altogether.

Fight the urge to pop any acne blemish that makes an appearance, simply allow it to run its course before it settles down.

To date, there is no miracle cure for acne, but trying different combinations of solutions may help ease the problem. Finding the right acne treatment is key to controlling the condition if not outright curing it. One thing that may help in the control of the conditions that bring on the formation of acne is a means with which to keep the pores of the skin clean. A facial steamer could be a worthwhile investment to use at home on a regular basis in order to get a deep cleanse of the skin’s pores.

Here at Clear Acne Quickly we will take a look at a few recommended acne treatments in an effort to ascertain whether they are worth using over a prolonged period of time.
